Photos of the Kagyu Monlam 2023 in Bodhgaya

This year, the 21st edition of Kagyu Monlam took place again in Bodhgaya, India, where Buddha Shakyamuni realized awakening. Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the XVIIth Gyalwa Karmapa, and his eminence the IVth Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche led aspiration prayers under the Bodhi tree, along with great lamas from our lineage.

Kagyu Monlam 2023: Arrival & Day 1

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, arrived at Gaya airport in the afternoon of the 14th of December 2023, and was given a warm welcome by members of the Kagyu Monlam Organising Committee and a gathering of both monastic and lay practitioners.

Kagyu Monlam 2023: Days 2-4

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, continued to preside over the prayers under the Bodhi Tree on days two, three and four of the 2023 Kagyu Monlam.

Kagyu Monlam 2023: Last days

During the final days of the Kagyu Monlam, Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, continued to lead aspiration prayers at the Maha Bodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya.
On the 19th of December Karmapa granted the empowerment of Buddha Amitayus, one of the wisdom aspects of longevity, to a gathering of thousands of practitioners at Karma Temple.
The final day of the 2023 Kagyu Monlam concluded in a joyful atmosphere under the Bodhi Tree with the recitation of auspicious prayers amidst a rain of flowers…
